DANCING THE REVOLUTION by Vaida Blazyte & Mara Cavalli
Tanzania
Languages: English, Swahili
Subtitles: English

A glance into the lives of “colorless” African artists in Tanzania fighting against stigmatization and killings of people with albinism through performing arts. In recent years, Tanzania became infamous for a number of tragic cases of Albino murders which were caused by a false belief that certain body parts of Albinos transmit magical powers. The Albino Revolution Cultural Troupe, which was formed in 2000, organizes musical and theatre performances at conferences, cultural events and campaigns to raise awareness and fight prejudice against Albinos.

KAYAYO, THE LIVING SHOPPING BASKETS by Mari Bakke Riise
Ghana
Languages: Dagbani
Subtitles: English

Kayayo means “girl-carrier” in the Ga language. In the capital of Ghana, 10,000 girls from the ages of 6 work as real life shopping baskets – called Kayayo. This documentary is about Bamunu, an 8-year old girl who hasn’t seen her family since she was sent away from home two years ago to work as a Kayayo to support her family. We follow her incessant longing to get away from the harsh markets, her journey back home and what awaits there.
